What is a Descriptive/Subjective Question? How is it evaluated?

A Subjective Question is an open-ended assessment question that allows candidates to demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, and technical depth. Unlike MCQs, subjective questions provide candidates with the autonomy to articulate their reasoning through diverse media formats.

  1. Text: Ideal for essays, situational judgment, and theoretical explanations.
  2. Video: Captures non-verbal cues, presentation skills, and personality.
  3. Audio: Evaluates verbal communication, fluency, and tone without the pressure of a camera.
  4. Code: Allows for technical problem-solving where logic and syntax are paramount.

Subjective questions support three types of evaluation:

  1. Manual Evaluation : Marks are assigned manually by the recruiter or assessor for each candidate response.
  2. Xobin AI-Evaluate : All responses are automatically evaluated and scored by Xobin's AI. This includes the following capabilities:
  • Communication Checker: Assesses a candidate's communication skills based on configurable criteria. Best suited for video or audio type responses.
  • AI Response Verifier: Checks for plagiarism and detects whether a candidate has used AI tools to generate their response. Best suited for text type responses.
  • Criteria-Based Evaluation: Evaluates candidate responses against an AI-generated target answer, taking into account contextual relevance and overall quality — not just keyword matching. You can provide your own evaluation criteria or have the AI generate them for you.
  • AI-Generated Target Answer : Xobin's AI model analyzes the question and generates a target answer that serves as a benchmark against which all candidate responses are evaluated.
  1. English Evaluate : The candidate's English proficiency is measured and scored automatically by AI based on their response.
